Today I made a conscious decision to start using the left Shift key on my keyboard. I realized that my unrealized devotion to the right Shift key was slowing my typing down. As of this afternoon, I began to use the left Shift key.
When you type a capital “P” or “L”, which Shift key do you use? If it is the right Shift, it could be slowing you down.
If you are still typing by Hunt-n-Peck, go ahead and make the switch to full-blown typing. The keyboard is NOT going away, so embrace it. It wants you to use all your fingers on both hands. Devote three weeks to trying it, and I guarantee you’ll be happy you did it.
Growing up in a house hold that had a computer long before anyone I knew, the first learning tool that I received was the Mavis Beacon typing software. I highly recommend it to everyone out there that wants to learn how to type or who just needs to brush up on their typing. It really helped me out and look at me now typing a wowing 60wpm. The only thing that really troubles me is typing the numbers see I’m short and so are my fingers so for me to use my index finger to get to the number 6 is very hard :)
Mavis Beacon is indeed a special woman for helping out with the typing technique. Ooooh she makes my fingers move.
it seems you are using your shift keys in the same way you use your arm bars. Left arm bar…right arm bar. Very effective
