Knowledge from a 4-year-old

I took Ethan and McKenzie to our neighbor’s birthday party on Sunday. The kids played great, except for a small incident which resulted in Ethan losing his cake as it was being served. Some crying and tantrum ensued, but it was diffused quickly by a few minutes of sitting outside and talking.

On the way home, Ethan said to me, “Dad, growing up is boring.”

I inquired for reasons.

He replied, “Being grown-up is boring; you don’t have any toys and all you do is put kids in time out.”

I said, “I have toys… actually, I guess I don’t really have any toys anymore.”

“You have video games,” Ethan reminded me. “Dad, can we play video games when we get home?”

The next day Beth asked Ethan if he wanted to finish watching the movie, Ice Age: The Dawn of the Dinosaurs. He said, “No, the rest of the movie is mushy.” Beth asked him what he meant. He told her, “There is a lot of loving and kissing and marrying.”

I love it.
